an early morning read

I awoke to fear for the first time in a long time. I know what to do with fear by now though. In fear the enemy pulls me to my own musterings but in fear God draws me to himself. So i opened my heart to God's answer to fear. Immediately, familiar scriptures flooded my mind.

"My times are in His hands... How great is your goodness, which you have stored up for those who fear you, which you bestow in the sight of men on those who take refuge in you. In the shelter of your presence you hide them from the intrigues of men; in your dwelling you keep them safe from accusing tongues. Praise be to the LORD, for he showed his wonderful love to me when I was in a besieged city. Ps 31:15, 19-21.

28And we know that in all things God works for the good of those who love him, who have been called according to his purpose. Romans 8:28

While thankful for the faithfulness of God in scriptures i was, i guess, a little dissapointed to have to be pulling my "it's going to be ok" scriptures on the last day of the year. I love New Years Eve. It is the day like no other when we can lay aside the failures of our past and look hopefull toward a better future. I resented my old nemesis for scraping himself off the pavement where i left him and trying to darken my outlook with his exhaustive storytelling.

But then something quite unexpected, and... (looking for a good word) wonderful..., (no that's not it though it made me wonder).... Marvelous, (close cause is did marvel),... galvanizing (it sure did)

God showed me a scripture. One i had worn before but this morning it came with such context. It's like God just put a new window in my house.

Thanks God.

Isaiah 43

Israel's Only Savior
1 But now, this is what the LORD says—
he who created you, O Jacob,
he who formed you, O Israel:
"Fear not, for I have redeemed you;
I have summoned you by name; you are mine.

2 When you pass through the waters,
I will be with you;
and when you pass through the rivers,
they will not sweep over you.
When you walk through the fire,
you will not be burned;
the flames will not set you ablaze.

3 For I am the LORD, your God,
the Holy One of Israel, your Savior;
I give Egypt for your ransom,
Cush [a] and Seba in your stead.

4 Since you are precious and honored in my sight,
and because I love you,
I will give men in exchange for you,
and people in exchange for your life.

5 Do not be afraid, for I am with you;
I will bring your children from the east
and gather you from the west.

6 I will say to the north, 'Give them up!'
and to the south, 'Do not hold them back.'
Bring my sons from afar
and my daughters from the ends of the earth-

7 everyone who is called by my name,
whom I created for my glory,
whom I formed and made."

8 Lead out those who have eyes but are blind,
who have ears but are deaf.

9 All the nations gather together
and the peoples assemble.
Which of them foretold this
and proclaimed to us the former things?
Let them bring in their witnesses to prove they were right,
so that others may hear and say, "It is true."

10 "You are my witnesses," declares the LORD,
"and my servant whom I have chosen,
so that you may know and believe me
and understand that I am he.
Before me no god was formed,
nor will there be one after me.

11 I, even I, am the LORD,
and apart from me there is no savior.

12 I have revealed and saved and proclaimed—
I, and not some foreign god among you.
You are my witnesses," declares the LORD, "that I am God.

13 Yes, and from ancient days I am he.
No one can deliver out of my hand.
When I act, who can reverse it?"

God's Mercy and Israel's Unfaithfulness
14 This is what the LORD says—
your Redeemer, the Holy One of Israel:
"For your sake I will send to Babylon
and bring down as fugitives all the Babylonians, [b]
in the ships in which they took pride.

15 I am the LORD, your Holy One,
Israel's Creator, your King."

16 This is what the LORD says—
he who made a way through the sea,
a path through the mighty waters,

17 who drew out the chariots and horses,
the army and reinforcements together,
and they lay there, never to rise again,
extinguished, snuffed out like a wick:

18 "Forget the former things;
do not dwell on the past.

19 See, I am doing a new thing!
Now it springs up; do you not perceive it?
I am making a way in the desert
and streams in the wasteland.

For all of you who think the Buckle men are a little slow...

Merry Christmas

Bags of Blessing

Watch the video

On saturday a team of people from Orangeville Alliance Church went to downtown toronto to deliver survival kits to the homeless.  Our church has been participating in this ministry for 3 years now and it continues to grow every year.  On a personal note this is fast becoming one of my favourite Christmas traditions.  Not because it is easy to see people in such need, but because Christ tells us that whatever we do for the least of these, we have done for Him.  It is a privelage to care for these people that many try so hard to ignore.  I hope this video inspires you to care for someone in your sphere of influence this Christmas.

I want to extend a special note of appreciation to all of the generous people who faithfully brought the items that made up the survival kits for the months leading up to our delivery day.  Let me also thank Highlands Youth For Christ for bringing their @ street Level van to transport the bags to Toronto, and to the Salvation Army and Paws and Claws in Orangeville who made key donations when it counted.

Lights

So on monday I took the kids to see Grampa and Gramma. My mom wanted them for some kid sized Christmas adventures. That and Luana and I could really use the break. While in Hamilton i bought some LED Christmas lights for the tree... You see our tree was almost all done when something wierd happened to the top string of lights. They got crazy bright and then all burnt out. wierd... So I bought these economical, but expensive lights to redo the tree. we got the tree unassembled again. I plugged in the new lights... and luana didn't like the colour.

the lights I bought were "clear" but LED "clear" is different from old fashioned "clear" so today i went back to Canadian tire to return the lights.

I ended up buying the good old fashioned clear lights this time...

Doing my husbandly duty I unpacked them and put them on the tree. i got all the way from the top to the bottom and had 4 or 5 branches left when my wife started to make noises... Don't pretend you don't know exactly what i am talking about. Noises that say I am doing something wrong but come without words attached to them.

"What"

"It's..."

"What"

"Its just that i can see the wires at the top"

"That's cause there are no ornaments on the tree yet"

"I just"

"What"

"I just don't know if they are going to bug me all year"

"What"

"The wires"

"huff"

"Don't worry, it's not like i'm going to have time to look at the tree"

("I can't beleive she just said that like now I should feel guilty for putting up the lights wrong and not helping her nurse the baby this Christmas")

"I can't believe you are going to make me take down 5 strings of lights for the 6 inches on the top of the tree"

"next year i'll do it myself"

("I'll hold you to that")

"Fine"

"What"

"Fine I'll take down the lights, but i'm going to blog this"

"Fine."
